These silly, brightly illustrated first chapter books focus on a group of axolotls who live in an underwater community called Sandy Shorts, and who are named after their favorite thing. In these four volumes readers meet Cheers-a-lotyl, who loves holiday inflatables, Hugs-a-Lotyl, who finds himself at a loss when he hugs so much his arms fly off, Snacks-a-Lotyl, who faces a crisis when her mom forgets to pack her school snacks, and Thinks-a-Lotyl, who loses his axolotl smile and must figure out how to get it back. Facts on the real-life critters in the book are appended, along with "Dive Deeper" questions. This series skews toward the silly and nonsensical but could appeal to kids in search of axolotl stories of any kind.
