One of the most popular humorists of the 20th century was English novelist P.G. Wodehouse. Wodehouse put a lot of effort into writing his works, frequently working on two or more at once. He may spend up to two years developing the narrative and penning a thirty thousand word scenario. He would finish the scene and then write the narrative. When he was younger, he could finish a novel in around three months, but as he got older, it took him closer to six months. He created a writing style that has been compared to humorous poetry and musical comedy by combining Edwardian slang with quotations from and allusions to several poets.
