Selma is no ordinary spider. Most spiders make webs to catch flies, but not Selma. She wants to capture the Splendor of the Universe. But it's hard to reach the stars from so close to the ground!

So Selma sets off to discover just how far a humble spider must spin to become out of this world . . .

Critical Reviews

"Teachers may find this story to be a useful springboard into discussion about Selma's determination and self-esteem. Children may find the intricate details of each illustrated web to be of interest, and they may be hooked by Selma's self-confidence."-- "Children's Literature Review "

"As the director of a small library, I run the children's program and purchase the titles. After reading Selma, I immediately purchased it. What I love - this is a book that is perfect for story time. It has engaging illustrations and short text (but meaningful). This is a new take on several age old life lessons - you can do anything you set your mind to, it's okay to be different - to be you, we all have unique gifts and talents. This offers a fantastic opportunity for kids to see themselves reflected in the character of Selma and to cheer her on. I love the illustrations, seemingly collage style, and they offer a great framework for a lot of crafts and activities inspired by them for all ages."--Kate Z. "Van Buren Public Library"

"Equal parts silly, unexpected, and inspiring, Selma's story is one to savor."-- "Kirkus Reviews, Starred Review"

"...sure to inspire readers to delight in their individuality and spin their own story."-- "Booklist, starred review"

"Selma makes an endearing hero, topped with a bright red beret and persistent in her own individuality. Selma makes an endearing hero, topped with a bright red beret and persistent in her own individuality."-- "The Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books"
