Description

A global drama spiraling out of an ancient secret into a fast-paced, modern world infused with cybercrime, genetic manipulation, and mind control. A world in which humanity serves as unwitting pawns in a conflict with unknown forces, and nothing is as it seems.

A gifted and striving graduate student's life is disrupted by a seemingly innocuous birthday gift, which plunges her into a shadowy world of international power and money and a conspiracy that spans millennia. She is seduced by opportunity, then forcibly taken and held against her will. Subject to bizarre experimentation, profound mutations emerge. Her struggle for freedom and survival depends on unlikely allies and discovering her unique, coveted treasure that connects the ancient with the future and our origins with eventual fate.

Critical Reviews

Jamie Michele - Reader's Favorite 5-Star

"If you had any concerns at all about taking one of those home DNA tests just for fun, Omega Rose is going to take your worst fears to a completely different level-and I mean that in the best way. This is a methodical techno thriller whose strengths are demonstrated in practice. Its scientific credibility thrives on detailed depictions of all the good stuff, like genome sequencing protocols and induced hypoxia tests.

We are also treated to an armchair global tour, from a sealed medical compound in northern Canada to cyber operations in Mauritius and Brussels, and every single operational detail is locked down. With a pace that keeps pushing forward and a plot that covers a lot of ground, this is a book worth the time investment. I look forward to the next two promised books of the Omega Rose Trilogy."

Elijah B. - Explore Authors Magazine - A

"There is so much to say about Omega Rose that readers will enjoy and appreciate. J.R. Marzolf does a magnificent job building the suspense throughout the story at large, but special mention goes to the events that lead our heroine, Inga Adamsen, into the hands of danger.

The world-building is also great, where the reader is given the dark underworld's lore piecemeal, allowing the reader to put it together over time rather than overexplaining. It allows the reader to react to the glimpses of both the underworld and the regular world organically. Not only that, but as this is part of a series, the book ends on a strong note while keeping certain side plots open to explore in the next entry of the series.

With its strong writing, likable characters, impressive world-building, and an engaging, suspenseful plot, Omega Rose leaves a great impression and a strong start to a new series, along with a grade A recommendation from me."

Booklife by Publishers Weekly - 5-Star

"Marzolf debuts with a lively fusion of science, genetics, and ancient mystery, centered on graduate student Inga Adamsen-who's just trying to make it through her last two semesters when she's suddenly offered a fellowship at biotech giant Lyndhurst Labs.

That's an ambitious setup right out of the gate, and Marzolf only ups the ante from there. Inga carries the key to several of the story's mysteries, and, as such, she's a strong lead-intelligent, street smart, and strong-who is only just realizing the power she holds within. Her journey of discovery will keep readers guessing, and Marzolf's blend of academia, high-stakes action, and conspiracy entices."

Takeaway: Ambitious SF packed with action, genetic engineering, and high stakes.

Carol Thompson - Reader's Favorite -5 Star

" J.R. Marzolf's attention to character development is skillful, making it easy for readers to connect with the characters. The settings are vividly described, and the world-building is paced perfectly.

Fans of science fiction, thrillers, and Michael Crichton will find much to enjoy in this imaginative and gripping tale, which leaves readers eagerly anticipating the next chapter of Inga's journey. It's a five-star beginning for what's to come.
