Adopting an interactive "choose your own path" style, this title in the You Choose: Ancient Empires and Civilizations series (4 titles) presents the Indus civilization, which began around 5500 BCE along the Indus River in what is modern-day India and Pakistan. The reader (called "you" and presumably a male character throughout) can navigate the ins and outs of daily life in Indus society as a teenager choosing a career in Mohenjo-daro, a traveling trader based in Lothal, or a builder in Harappa. Both positive and negative story outcomes create realistic experiences. An introductory overview of the Indus civilization, a map, a time line, photos of artifacts and the region today, and a note about the civilization's decline provide more facts about this lesser-known but fascinating time period.--Angela Leeper "Booklist"
