When his desperation for sleep persuades Ryan Savage, an insomniac artist, to use a potent cocktail of sleeping pills, drugs and other unknowns, he falls down a technicolor rabbit hole and lands in the world of grim reapers, muses, and oracles. Determined to stay in the world of colors so long lost to him, he quickly takes up an apprenticeship beneath Bishop, the leading grim reaper of the realm.
Secured in his new world and vocation, Savage is soon helping Bishop track a serial killer across the country -- each killing an eerie echo of the violent art from Savage's own mind. In order to catch the killer before he strikes again, Savage must revisit his past; his beliefs, his memories, and the pieces that have been left to exile.

Critical Reviews
"ESH Leighton's debut novel Journey Man is both gritty and glittering, corporeal in detail and cosmic in consequence. This book is sexy, slick, and one hell of a ride."
- Amy E. Casey, author of The Sturgeon's Heart
"In her clear, meditative style, ESH Leighton has teased apart the best elements of gritty urban fantasy and vibrant ancient mythologies, and whipped up an incredibly addictive odyssey that explores the complexities of life, death, and purpose."
- Nix Damon, author of Moira and Earth
"Leighton's genre-bending novel has myths, monsters, murderers, and muses, but at the core is something intimately human - the desire to figure out who we are. Much like The Artist in the novel, Leighton has made something beautiful, dark, funny, and unique."
- Elison Alcovendaz, author of Lovers, Exes, Soulmates.
"Prose as familiar yet edgy as the scratch of a turntable's needle on vinyl, stark as fluorescent bulbs, and dreamy as cigarette smoke. I see Journey Man becoming such a title to uncover and Leighton the name to scour for."
- Stephanie Escobar, author of Mercy of the Crow and A Song Beyond Walls
"This story is for the creative soul - a fun and compelling artistic experience in book form, packed with strikingly visual passages, philosophical ideas, and the most inventive characters I've read in a long time."
- Annie James Thomas, author of The Boy Who Brought the Sea
