Jesus could have been an earthly king; He could have been a scholar or a pharisee. Further, He could have been a conqueror, a general, or a warrior, but our King chose to spend his three and a half years with 12 "extremely young" men. Jesus chose to do the work of a teacher: a rabbi. He chose to be what no man would expect the Messiah to be, choosing a position that, today, wouldn't get you a reserved space in the church's parking lot. In many cases you wouldn't get recognition or a vacation, and in some churches, not even a paycheck. Historically and biblically, author Matthew Arrowood proposes that Jesus was not the leader of a group of "seasoned men" or "elders" as the arts, movies, and some books might suggest. This book invites the reader to consider that Jesus was the mentor of a group of teens: in other words, Jesus was a youth leader.
