About the Author

Patricia Fitti was born in 1965 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. As a child, she liked to draw and write, motivated by her artist father. After working as an elementary school teacher for more than 20 years, she decided to start studying illustration with several renowned illustrators. Later, she attended the National University of the Arts in Buenos Aires. She then began to work for several national and foreign publishers, writing stories and illustrating books. But her greatest desire was to integrate text and illustration by making her own books. Thus, in 2018, she entered her first picture book in a contest and won the Apel-les Mestres award in Spain. A year later, Patricia moved from the city to the countryside, where she discovered the peace and beauty she needed to find inspiration. She got two more literary award mentions with her next books, one of them being Mr. Round and Mr. Square. Making books is magical for Patricia, since it allows her to unite three things that she's passionate about: art, literature, and the world of children.

Critical Reviews

Oliver the cat leaps higher and higher in the air until he nearly reaches the moon--if only in his dreams.

Originally published in Belgium and the Netherlands and translated from Dutch, this book starts simply enough, as the table wakes Oliver saying, "The chair is high, but I'm higher!" The curious kitty accepts the challenge: "Tables don't talk, but all right, if you say so...here I come!" Oliver jumps onto the table. But then the cupboard mumbles that it is higher. Oliver easily scales it. And so the heights keep rising; a tree, the roof, a tower, and more objects all cry out to Oliver...until he hears the call of the moon. The moon is far too high, and Oliver tumbles down, only to awaken startled from a dream. Sleepy Oliver knows that his owner Emily's embrace is, after all, the perfect place to be. Fitti captures cats' curiosity and climbing prowess. The repeated structure makes this an appropriate choice for toddlers and preschoolers alike, the words rhythmic and well suited to a read-aloud. Oliver has soft peachy fur with dark orange stripes. His face is sweetly expressive. Each joyful leap captures the trail of chaos left in his wake: toppled flowers, scattering birds, an overturned chair. The story is absolutely adorable, with inviting illustrations and plenty for both adults and children to enjoy. Emily is pale-skinned and brown-haired.
