Description

This is not a memoir about what happened or how things were. This is not a memoir that even attempts to be true, but when the coma drugs cloud your memory, you must make the story your own. Will Carter's memoir, Getting Better, is Will's story of recovery after being in a car accident, suffering a brain injury and stroke, and being placed in a coma, all during his senior year of high school.

About the Author

On October of 2007 when Will Carter was a senior in high school, Will was in a car accident and suffered a brain injury. After an almost three-week coma, Will awoke and went to the Shepherd Center for therapy. In May of 2008, he was able to graduate Roswell High School, and then, four years later, he graduated Oglethorpe University with a Bachelor of Arts in Playwriting. He went on to receive his Master of Fine Arts in Playwriting from Boston University and his Master of Arts in Teaching from the University of Louisville.

Critical Reviews

"Will Carter's searingly honest look at his recovery from a life-changing accident is a welcome reminder of our shared humanity." Jessica Handler, author, "Invisible Sisters," "Braving the Fire," and "The Magnetic Girl." "Will Carter's memoir of his healing from brain injury is a blueprint for hope for anyone who faces self-doubt and a seemingly insurmountable challenge. It is a testament to faith and to the love of parents and teachers. Poignant and powerful, it captures with humor and optimism the routines of the sophomoric teenage years that most people take for granted." --Anthony Grooms, author of Bombingham and The Vain Conversation
