A Note from the Author
As our population ages, the need for specialized expertise in geriatric psychiatry has never been greater. Yet, we face a critical shortage of practitioners equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge in this field. The Carlat Geriatric Psychiatry Fact Book addresses this gap by offering evidence-based, high-yield clinical insights accessible at the point of care. My goal is to empower a broad range of healthcare professionals with the tools to provide competent, compassionate care to older adults. At some point, most older adults will require some form of community support, thus, to supplement this text, I've also compiled valuable resources for clinical practice at, available at the end of this book.
Finally, the process of writing this book has been a labor of love. The opportunity to contribute to a resource that can enhance patient care is profoundly fulfilling. Above all, I remain continually inspired by the resilience, dignity, and wisdom of the older adults we serve, whose experiences provide enduring lessons in humanity and compassion. Lessons that I hope will inspire your practice as they have mine.
