Description

A burping boy. A family with quirks. Will their love for chocolate, candy, ice cream and soda burden them forever?

Brother's burping plague is matched only by his Sister's continued sneezes, Momma's hiccups and Daddy's toots. As he makes changes, inspired by his dog Peppy, he learns that his love of chocolate and lack of movement had caused the constant belching.

His family member's other ailments are also associated with crazy food habits and inactivity - each has an electronic device they cannot live without. Will the family be able to make changes to feel better?

This book is for any parent, grandparent or kid who appreciates a good joke. If laughing helps you cope with the many stresses in life and you don't take anything too seriously, you will enjoy reading this story. As a lighthearted read, your young one will wonder if everyday choices could really cause such absurd ailments.

If you want to help kids understand the importance of eating well and moving more, this book is for you and your family. With a common thread of making family time a priority and laughing along the way, your child will select this book again and again.

Beautifully illustrated by Daniel Wlodarski, the images bring the The Boy Who Burped to life!

Kirkus Review

". . . over-the-top characterization of the Everyday family will make young readers giggle. Brother's agency shows that even the youngest family members can help turn a family's problems around. It's simplistic but effectively bolsters the overt message. . . A goofy, gassy tale with an obvious but important moral." -Kirkus Review

Kirkus Review:

A junk food-loving family learns the value of eating healthy and getting exercise in this picture book debut. The Everyday family prefers being inside to exercising outdoors. Brother loves video games and chocolate; Sister eats candy and plays with her phone all day; Momma watches TV while eating ice cream; and Daddy spends the day on his computer, drinking soda. Their habits lead to embarrassing noises: Brother burps, Sister sneezes, Momma hiccups, and Daddy "toots." One day, the whole family seems zombie like. Brother, who feels isolated, turns to the family dog for companionship, and they spend the day outside. Afterward, Brother drinks water, eats a healthy dinner, and is surprised how good he feels-and that he has no more burps. The next day, he makes a healthy breakfast for his family, says, "Let's do something together," and rescues his family from unhealthy routines (and gasses). Lewis' over-the-top characterization of the Everyday family will make young readers giggle. Brother's agency shows that even the youngest family members can help turn a family's problems around. It's simplistic but effectively bolsters the overt message. . . Wlodarski's large-headed, big-eyed full-color cartoon figures, and their body-function sound effects, amp up the comedy. A goofy, gassy tale with an obvious but important moral.
