Read-ers look-ing for pow-er-ful, female, Jew-ish role mod-els will find a valu-able resource in this com-pi-la-tion of sto-ries based on real Jew-ish hero-ines through-out the ages. Each short, con-cise sketch focus-es on a brave, deter-mined woman who pre-vailed against odds and changed a cor-ner of her world -- and in the process, changed Jew-ish and often world history.
Entries include Sarah Aron-son, a fear-less agent spy-ing for Israel against the Ottomans; Beate Siro-ta Gor-don, who fought for wom-en's rights; enter-tain-er Mol-ly Picon, who per-formed for refugees and sol-diers through-out Europe dur-ing World War II; Riv-ka bat Meir Tik-tin-er, a renowned schol-ar from the six-teenth cen-tu-ry; Dr. Rahel Goritein Straus, who helped advance the State of Israel in its ear-ly days; astro-naut Judith Resnick, who lost her life on the Space Shut-tle Chal-lenger but inspired many to reach for the stars; and many oth-ers who dis-tin-guished them-selves in busi-ness, pol-i-tics, aca-d-e-mics, sci-ence, and count-less oth-er fields.
