Did You Hear What Happened in Salem?: The Witch Trials of 1692
Massachusetts Bay Colony, 1692. When the first girl fell down screaming, the people of Salem Village thought it might just be silliness. Then a second girl started barking. A third and fourth began to shake uncontrollably. A doctor said "an evil hand" had come upon the girls, and everyone knew: They were bewitched.
But who were the witches? Everyone knew that too: the unprotected residents of Salem--the poor, the elderly, the ones who were a little bit strange. Soon more girls were having fits and naming people as witches. The village erupted in accusations, suspicion, and fear. By the time the witch trials ended, dozens of lives had been ruined, and twenty people were dead.
And I saw it all.
With a snarky and surprising first-person narrator - a historical figure that played a major role in events - acclaimed writer Katie Kennedy offers a fresh new take on the greatest true-crime story in American history.

House of Hearts
"An intoxicating blend of romance and horror, darkness and wit. With haunts and twists that leap off the page, this was a rabbit hole I was happy to fall down." --Ava Reid, #1 New York Times bestselling author of A Study in Drowning Violet Harper knows her best friend was murdered. Even if everyone else has labeled her death a "freak accident," Vi is sure she'd been trying to tell her something right before she died. Cryptic messages about her friend's elite boarding school, her whirlwind romance, and the mysterious secret society she was entangled in all point to a more sinister fate. So, Violet does what no one else seems willing to do: She transfers to the same fancy school to dig into the society's murky history and find out what really happened to her friend. She knows the truth might not be pretty, but what she doesn't bargain for is the handsome boy at the center of it all--Calvin Lockwell, the brother of her prime suspect and descendant of the school's founder. He's obnoxious and privileged, and Violet can't deny their haunting attraction. It soon becomes clear his family is hiding a dark secret that may not be of this world, and suddenly Violet's following her friend's doomed footsteps down the rabbit hole. Even as details emerge of a deadly curse plaguing the school, she can't escape her true feelings for Calvin. But loving him may be the last thing she ever does. -

Interlocutor Goddess
"Jasmine Reid writes a shapeful, theoretical work involved in the rigorous attending to emergent selves and the languages made in calling them into being." --aracelis girmay
Interlocutor Goddess explores the creation of a trans language for selfhood within an exilic state of "ecstatic grief."
Reid's experimental work challenges societal norms, particularly the family as a political construct while reflecting on the trans experiences of a queer Black woman. The poems grapple with oppressive systems of separation and colonial legacies, rejecting extractive, empire-driven paradigms, and gender essentialism. Within her collection, Reid envisions alternative, ethical ways of being, rooted in unity and wholeness and finds kinship with the rhythms and lifeways of the natural world--soil, stars, and water. Her poetry employs a trans-lyricism, weaving together dual meanings through homonyms, homophones, and portmanteaus to create a layered, fugitive language that resists rigid classifications. At its core, Interlocutor Goddess is an act of transfiguration, a celebration of girlhood, and a reclamation of wholeness for all who exist beyond imposed boundaries.

Fantasies of the Body
In this short, masterful gem of a novel, David Plante's seasoned narrator contemplates the connection between physical beauty and love, drawing on literary references and personal experiences to explore these themes.
The unnamed narrator of this brief, urgent novel, a young novelist making his way in the literary world, writes of his fascination with two enigmatic, troubled young men, one a Boston Brahmin and the other a lofty undergraduate at England's Cambridge University whom the narrator meets during his writer-in-residency. With each young man the narrator engages in a complex relationship filled with intellectual and erotic tension and each relationship leaves him feeling unfulfilled. By contrast, the narrator relates the story of his deep and abiding romantic life with an English poet, who introduces him to the remaining members of The Bloomsbury group as well as E.M. Forster and who guides him toward the publishers who bring out his early work. However, the poet dies young, and the narrator is once against cast adrift and his quest to find new, intimate interactions with the tragic young men he encounters causes him to reflect on the nature of beauty, love, and the intellectual life, emphasizing the transient and often unfulfilled desires that drive human connections.

Unlearning Jewish Anxiety: How to Live with More Joy and Less Suffering
Confronting the reality, habits, and healing of Jewish anxiety.
Jewish anxiety is not all in our heads. Nor is feeling anxious simply a Jewish stereotype, even though many Jews tout anxiety as a stereotypical virtue and ascribe it as a motivator for success. Jewish anxiety is real. We inherit it from our ancestors. We learn it simply by living in an unsafe world as Jewish people. We learn it growing up in Jewish communities. We unconsciously transmit Jewish anxiety to our children through how we remember the past, retell our stories, and celebrate Jewish holidays. We experience Jewish anxiety in how we habitually react to stress, fear, and uncertainty, whether that stress has anything to do with being Jewish. We receive painful messages from the wider world that we internalize as repetitive stress habits of fear, unworthiness, and shame, and then turn these hateful messages on ourselves and each other through the voices of unrelenting internal critics.
Jewish anxiety is real, but it is not inevitable. We don't have to suffer simply because of the challenging history or learned patterns we've inherited. We don't have to suffer simply because of who we are in the world, or how the world imagines, distorts, and treats Jews. I believe we have more choices about how to respond to life's challenges than we think. I believe we can unlearn these habits with awareness, curiosity, compassion, and courage. I believe Jewish spirituality offers deep wisdom and simple practices for how to release these patterns from our minds and our bodies for good. We can learn how to calm down, suffer less, and get free. I believe we can choose to live with more joy, despite the conspiracy theories and hatred.
