Bright Continent: Breaking Rules and Making Change in Modern Africa
The path to progress in Africa lies in the surprising and innovative solutions Africans are finding for themselves.
"A hopeful narrative about a continent on the rise." --New York Times Book Review
Dayo Olopade knew from personal experience that Western news reports on conflict, disease, and poverty obscure the true story of modern Africa. So she crossed sub-Saharan Africa to document how ordinary people deal with their daily challenges. She found what cable news ignores: a continent of ambitious reformers and young social entrepreneurs, driven by kanju--creativity born of African difficulty. It's a trait found in pioneers like Kenneth Nnebue, who turned cheap VHS tapes into the multimillion-dollar film industry Nollywood. Or Ushahidi, a technology collective that crowdsources citizen activism and disaster relief.
A shining counterpoint to the conventional wisdom, The Bright Continent rewrites Africa's challenges as opportunities to innovate and celebrates a history of doing more with less as a powerful model for the rest of the world.
"For anyone who wants to understand how the African economy really works, The Bright Continent is a good place to start." --Reuters
"[An] upbeat study of development in Africa...The book is written more in wonder at African ingenuity than in anger at foreign incomprehension." --The New Yorker -

Bright Cooking is about inspiring you to create based on what you have in your kitchen, what you hunger for, and what your body is communicating it needs. With advice throughout on adding big flavor and a sense of playfulness to your repertoire, Bright Cooking teaches new ways of thinking about and preparing food. Bright Dead Things: Poems
FINALIST FOR THE NATIONAL BOOK AWARD
A finalist for both the National Book Award and the National Book Critics Circle Award, Bright Dead Things examines the dangerous thrill of living in a world you must leave one day and the search to find something that is "disorderly, and marvelous, and ours."
A book of bravado and introspection, of feminist swagger and harrowing loss, this fourth collection considers how we build our identities out of place and human contact--tracing in intimate detail the ways the speaker's sense of self both shifts and perseveres as she moves from New York City to rural Kentucky, loses a dear parent, ages past the capriciousness of youth, and falls in love. Ada Limón has often been a poet who wears her heart on her sleeve, but in these extraordinary poems that heart becomes a "huge beating genius machine" striving to embrace and understand the fullness of the present moment. "I am beautiful. I am full of love. I am dying," the poet writes. Building on the legacies of forebears such as Frank O'Hara, Sharon Olds, and Mark Doty, Limón's work is consistently generous, accessible, and "effortlessly lyrical" (New York Times)--though every observed moment feels complexly thought, felt, and lived.

Bright Edges of the World: Willa Cather and Her Archbishop
Author and historian Garrett Peck traces Willa Cather's adventures in the Southwest and how they influenced her best book. Six months before she died, Willa Cather called her 1927 novel Death Comes for the Archbishop her "best book." The Atlantic magazine concurred, including Archbishop on its Great American Novels list in 2024. A perennial favorite for people who love New Mexico, the novel tells an unusual story of two French priests and best friends serving on the American frontier before the arrival of the railroad. This Western work of fiction is loosely based on two historical figures, Archbishop Jean-Baptiste Lamy and Bishop Joseph Machebeuf. In The Bright Edges of the World, Garrett Peck explores how Cather's travels to the Southwest inspired her writing. She visited the Southwest six times between 1912 and 1926, and from these journeys came three novels, the last of which was Death Comes for the Archbishop. Through Cather's letters, postcards, articles, and interviews, Peck traces how integral travel was to Cather's imagination while highlighting the vital contribution that Cather's longtime partner, Edith Lewis, made to the story. The Bright Edges of the World is richly illustrated to highlight Cather and Lewis's extensive Southwestern adventures. Though Archbishop is a work of fiction, Peck explores how Cather wove some of the most legendary people in New Mexican history into her novel, such as Archbishop Lamy, Kit Carson, and Padre Antonio José Martínez, while subtly hinting toward the complexity of Pueblo Indian and Navajo (Diné) faith. Archbishop is a multicultural novel that reflects the diversity of New Mexico's people. Death Comes for the Archbishop remains a timeless book of friendship on the American frontier and an inspiration for people who, as Cather wrote, "have gone a-journeying in New Mexico on the trail of the Archbishop." -
Bright Eyes: Surviving Our Monsters and Learning to Live Without Them - A Memoir
Fans of Jennette McCurdy's I'm Glad My Mom Died will root for Bridey Thelen-Heidel as she struggles to unshackle herself from her mother's chaos in this triumphant debut memoir. Bridey is tethered to her mom's addiction to dangerous men who park their Harley-Davidsons in the house and kick holes in all their doors. Raised to be her mother's keeper, rescuer, and punching bag, Bridey gets used to stuffing her life into black trash bags, hauling them between Alaska and California, and changing schools every time her mom moves in a new monster--or runs away from one. Desperately seeking the normal life she's observed in sitcoms and her friends' families, Bridey earns her way into a fancy, private college, where she tries to forget who she is--until her mom calls with a threat that drops Bridey to her knees. Watching doctors and police interrogate her mother at the hospital, Bridey realizes her mom has become a monster herself . . . and she doesn't want to be saved. But Bridey does. Bright Eyes is about the indomitable spirit of a young girl forced to be brave, required to be resilient, and conditioned to be optimistic, and how she ultimately uses the same traits that helped her to survive her mother's chaos to create her own happily-ever-after. -

Bright Forever
PULITZER PRIZE FINALIST - A "cleanly written [and] artful . . . page-turner" (San Francisco Chronicle) about a nine-year-old girl's disappearance and the lasting impact it has on her close-knit community "Compelling . . . both harrowing and deeply felt."--New York Daily News On an evening like any other, nine-year-old Katie Mackey, daughter of the most affluent family in a small town on the plains of Indiana, sets out on her bicycle to return some library books. This simple act is at the heart of The Bright Forever, a suspenseful, moving novel about the choices people make that change their lives forever. Playing fact, speculation, and contradiction off one another as the details unfold, Lee Martin creates a fast-paced story that's as gripping as it is richly human. His beautiful, clear-eyed, spartan prose builds to an extremely nuanced portrayal of the complicated give and take among people struggling to maintain their humanity in the shadow of loss. Memorable for its perceptions and power, The Bright Forever is a captivating and emotional tale about the human need to know even the hardest truths. -

Sold outBright Lights and Summer Nights
Summer nights can be full of surprises.
As a single, unemployed, and unapologetic twenty-five year old mess, I came to the Hamptons this summer for one reason-to focus on myself and work out my quarter-life crisis. I didn't come here planning to sneak into a private party and meet a handsome stranger.
I definitely didn't come here expecting for that stranger to be Preston Rhodes-billionaire and superstar quarterback for the Manhattan Mambas.
And that's not even the crazy part.
He asked me to be his pretend girlfriend for a week while his family is in town. He needed a date for his sister's wedding, and I'd never turn down the opportunity to be spoiled by a rich man.
The only thing is, Preston's not very good at pretending.
Now instead of discovering myself, I'm spending the week discovering what life would be like with him. Instead of focusing on me, I'm focusing on how he looks at me, how he touches me, how he wants me.
But now that neither one of us is faking it, I only hope that we can hold on to what we have through the bright lights and summer nights.
From the author that brought you Black Ties and White Lies and Pretty Rings and Broken Things, comes an all-new stand-alone in the Black Tie Billionaires Series.
