Galleon Investments: Investments and Murder
Success is ensured by the astute, financial planners at Galleon Investments in Rosedale, Maryland, a neighboring community to Dundalk, Maryland. There is a political base that rounds out the clientele roster, as well as waves of patronage that follow in the wake of the firm's leader, Randolph Galleon, a stalwart symbol of intellect and integrity. For Dundalk, a new plant promises hope with the heralding of its arrival-but could one rotten apple spoil everything? Dundalk has never been able to hold its head high since the historic demise of Bethlehem Steel days, but a new industry promises otherwise. Its citizens are doing cartwheels in anticipation, welcoming its genesis like a prideful grandparent. Would that bubble burst for Dundalk, as murder lingers in the air at Galleon and unscrupulous characters threaten to undermine the trajectory of the firm's operations? A common enemy and drugs prove a dangerous catalyst that jeopardize the very structure carefully nurtured by Randolph for a lifetime. Why were some people destined for greatness while others remained mired in the hallows of darkness? While fighting for Galleon's survival, the question lingers for both Randolph and his star pupil, Evan: even he is sometimes tempted to steal! Who will win the battle? The answer remains, perhaps no one. -
Three Roads Back: How Emerson, Thoreau, and William James Responded to the Greatest Losses of Their Lives
From their acclaimed biographer, a final, powerful book about how Emerson, Thoreau, and William James forged resilience from devastating loss, changing the course of American thought
In Three Roads Back, Robert Richardson, the author of magisterial biographies of Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David Thoreau, and William James, tells the connected stories of how these foundational American writers and thinkers dealt with personal tragedies early in their careers. For Emerson, it was the death of his young wife and, eleven years later, his five-year-old son; for Thoreau, it was the death of his brother; and for James, it was the death of his beloved cousin Minnie Temple. Filled with rich biographical detail and unforgettable passages from the journals and letters of Emerson, Thoreau, and James, these vivid and moving stories of loss and hard-fought resilience show how the writers' responses to these deaths helped spur them on to their greatest work, influencing the birth and course of American literature and philosophy. In reaction to his traumatic loss, Emerson lost his Unitarian faith and found solace in nature. Thoreau, too, leaned on nature and its regenerative power, discovering that "death is the law of new life," an insight that would find expression in Walden. And James, following a period of panic and despair, experienced a redemptive conversion and new ideas that would drive his work as a psychologist and philosopher. As Richardson shows, all three emerged from their grief with a new way of seeing, one shaped by a belief in what Emerson called "the deep remedial force that underlies all facts." An inspiring book about resilience and the new growth and creativity that can stem from devastating loss, Three Roads Back is also an extraordinary account of the hidden wellsprings of American thought. -

is(ness)
is(ness) is a collection of poems that capture my experiences as distinct moments, places, and dreams, akin to snapshots or paintings frozen in time. The book is divided into four sections: EAST [wake], SOUTH [arrive], WEST [dream], and NORTH [depart], each representing different stages where these experiences reflect the places and dreams that inspired the poems. Each section draws inspiration from the words of poets that resonate deeply with its theme.
Some poems explore themes of prayer, travel, and identity, while others delve into dreams, states of consciousness, and presence under various influences. For instance, in the poem "Calm," I reflect on the morning beauty of Rocky Mountain National Park while attending a conference in Colorado. Another example is the poem capturing the awe-inspiring sight of a thunderstorm racing across the desert plains and mountains at dusk, against the backdrop of the Sangre de Cristos mountains, celebrating the vibrant colors, awe, and power of a life-giving rainstorm in an arid landscape.
Other poems, such as "Enter Dreamtime," are inspired by years of dream journals and explore the realm of dreams in four distinct parts. The poem "there is light there" contemplates the idea of leaving behind something influential, reflecting on the theme of departure.
Each section and poem in is(ness) serves as an exploration and definition of moments, instances, places, identities, and dreams. The journey creating is(ness) has brought me a sense of calmness and has refined each poem into a unique "quality" reminiscent of a painting or photograph.

Million Dollar Men
What is the cost of knowing?
When arson is confirmed to have caused a fire that kills a family of four, the search for their killer leads detectives to focus their investigation on Brian McMillan, a paroled felon with a history of violence, including a prior arson conviction.
Awaiting trial for the murders, Brian returns to the cold, concrete box he vowed to leave behind forever. Immediately upon arrival, he receives the first of a series of threats; each more vicious than the last but all carrying the same unspoken message: Keep your mouth shut. About what, he isn't entirely sure. Fear takes control and drives Brian to share with his court-appointed attorney, Walter Erickson, a chilling pattern he noticed during his last imprisonment.
Walt's legal mind dismisses the observation as jailhouse paranoia, but his instincts rage. Buried by the massive legal battle ahead, Walt reaches out to the one person he trusts to explore Brian's allegations: MJ Fernandez, a Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative reporter with whom he shares a special bond.
MJ and Walt become entangled in the twisted reality behind the catastrophic blaze as MJ's fearless and dogged determination to discover the truth propels them into a multi-dimensional world of darkness they know nothing about, and wish they had never entered.
As the pieces of the puzzle snap into place, they quickly realize they are running out of time to bring those responsible to justice... and to save an innocent man.

I Would Die If I Were You: Notes on Art and Truth-Telling
Drawing upon her previous work and over two decades of teaching, New York Times bestselling memoirist Emily Rapp Black explores how art can move us through moments of grief and loss while celebrating the spirit-lifting potential of all creative acts To be disabled is to be exiled; to have a terminal illness is to be isolated in one's time-limitedness; to grieve is to be annihilated; and to live is inevitable: all of these, together and at once, form the core of the truth of being human. As most artists know, approaching their "hard" stories in a way that feels joyful, redemptive, and meaningful can be difficult to near impossible. With I Would Die If I Were You, celebrated author Emily Rapp Black has designed a guide that will help creative people working in any medium make meaning out of loss. For her entire life, she has been answering awkward questions in elevators: "What's wrong with you?" "What happened to your body?" And, in the case of her son's terminal illness and death, she's been told more times than she can count: "I would die if I were you." Rejecting such cruel and casual conclusions, Rapp Black posits that part of the human project is to experience grief and loss, and nobody gets out alive, and no writer--or person--survives anything alone. We need empathy, and for that we need community, and we need all the stories told within them to reach our fullest potential. I Would Die If I Were You is a bold and bracing blueprint--part memoir, part craft book--for how art making can lead us to our fullest truths.
