Signals of Being, or Verbum Caro Factum Est: A Play in Three Acts
In the early days of Russia's 2022 invasion of Ukraine, the residents of a small co-op community outside of Kyiv find themselves in increasingly desperate circumstances, surrounded by occupying Russian forces. Pinched between Bucha and Borodianka, cut off from aid, and unable to escape, their attempts at survival rely on connection: a cellphone signal in the forest, their bonds with each other, and, ultimately, new understandings of what it means to be Ukrainian. Weaving Shakespeare with both Ukrainian literary classics and contemporary works, Volodymyr Rafeyenko's Signals of Being stages a captivating dramatic interpretation of a country at war. -
New Sentience: Reimagining Animal Poetry
As our treatment of nonhuman animals is increasingly implicated in planetary crises--from climate change to global pandemics to unprecedented rates of biodiversity loss and species extinction--it's clear that an urgent reconsideration of our relationship to other animals is not only necessary but overdue. How we write about animals, how we represent them in our poems and stories, doesn't simply reflect how we relate to them in the world; it also shapes how we treat them. Any cultural shift in how we conceive of other animals requires a shift in how we read and write about them. The New Sentience seeks to help catalyze this shift by ushering in a new kind of animal poetry, what editors Ashley Capps and Allison Titus dub "kinpoetics." Whereas animals in Western poetry have disproportionately functioned as symbols, the poems in this anthology foreground a meaningful awareness of animal sentience and subjectivity, depicting other animals as individuals with dynamic selfhood, personalities, and emotional lives. Stylistically wide-ranging, the poets featured here, among them Wendell Berry, Lucille Clifton, E. E. Cummings, Mary Oliver, Ross Gay, and Margaret Atwood, apply scrutinous lyrical attention to the animal experience in such surprising and illuminating ways that the reader can't avoid an earnest reexamination of what humans owe our more-than-human kin. With humility, empathy, and curiosity, the work in this anthology reaffirms the vital connections between humans, animals, and the natural world. This pioneering book will impel readers to a deeper understanding of the lives of the creatures that share our planet and will inspire poets and writers to a more compassionate, meaningful engagement with animal subjects and lives. -

Even Better Way to Zone: Achieving More Affordable, Equitable, and Sustainable Communities
Zoning is the tool that everyone loves to hate. It may also be the most important and least understood process affecting how US communities shape the lives of their residents. While almost every community comprehensive plan calls for more affordable, equitable, and sustainable development, zoning is often blamed for preventing that from happening. As US communities face an unprecedented housing affordability crisis, a long history of excluding the poor and disadvantaged from key opportunities, and a continuing climate disaster, zoning needs to change - a lot.
In An Even Better Way to Zone, planning expert Donald L. Elliott explains how outdated assumptions about development and unnecessary barriers in our current zoning regulations have contributed to development patterns that are not sustainable, affordable, or equitable to historically disadvantaged populations. It identifies what types of changes to zoning rules, procedures, and maps could improve outcomes in each of those areas. Importantly, it also helps the reader think through what to do when zoning changes that would improve outcomes for one of those challenges would undermine success in the others. An Even Better Way to Zone also reorients the zoning discussion towards redevelopment and reuse rather than implicitly focusing on raw land development, because already developed areas represent the vast majority of the built environment where meaningful changes will need to be made. Instead of giving lip service to the importance of infill and reuse, zoning needs to actively remove the barriers that prevent innovative, equitable, and sustainable redevelopment. With engaging, easy-to-understand prose, Elliott briefly explains the challenges of today's zoning and then breaks down how this key legal tool can be used to reinvent our communities as places where housing is more affordable, everyone is treated fairly, and we do far less damage to the environment. From fixing zoning rules and incentives to fixing the procedures used to draft, implement, and change zoning, Elliott provides practical, sage advice on adapting zoning to address today's most critical issues.

Communism, the Highest Stage of Ecology
Is communism inherently anti-ecological? Or is it the only real solution to today's planetary crisis? Communism, The Highest Stage of Ecology makes a bold intervention in contemporary environmental debates, refuting the myth that socialism and ecological responsibility are at odds. Instead, Guillaume Suing argues that planned economies-unlike capitalist market systems-offer the necessary framework for sustainable resource management, food sovereignty, and scientific agricultural advancements.
Drawing on historical case studies from the Soviet Union and Cuba, Suing explores the successes and contradictions of socialist environmental policies, from agroecology to energy planning. He critically engages with ecosocialist currents and exposes the limitations of "green capitalism," ultimately reaffirming the centrality of dialectical materialism in understanding and confronting the climate crisis.
Translated into English for the first time, with a foreword and scholarly contextualization by Henry Hakamäki and Salvatore Engel-Di Mauro, this book is an essential contribution for scholars, activists, and all those seeking a radical path toward ecological and social liberation.

What happens when the youngest, most successful coach in the NHL comes face-to-face with the woman he never got over - only to find out she's married to his new General Manager?
Everything I've spent my life building is suddenly at risk.
I loved Ariana Ridley long before the world knew my name. Before the NHL. Before the pressure of being one of the youngest coaches in the league. Before I learned how to survive by locking my heart down tight.
Leaving her was the hardest thing I've ever done - and the one choice I never made peace with.
Now she's back.
And she belongs to another man.
My new General Manager.
I tell myself I can handle it. Discipline is my job. Control is my strength. I know how to keep my distance - how to respect the lines that should never be crossed.
But every glance drags the past to the surface. Every quiet moment reminds me the love I buried never died.
I see the cracks she tries to hide, the fear she's learned to live with, and the way she still looks at me like I'm the one place she can breathe.
I want to protect her.
I want to fight for her.
And I want things I have no right to want.
Because if I cross that line, I don't just risk my career - I risk shattering the woman I never stopped loving.
Some choices haunt us forever.
Some loves never let go.
And trying to right my wrongs might just ruin us both.

Art of Being Alone: Loneliness Was My Cage, Solitude Is My Home
Taylor Swift once said, "The scary news is, you are on your own now. But the cool news is, you are on your own now." The fear of loneliness has been instilled in our minds since we were children. We have learned that the child who eats and sits alone, and has no friends, is often perceived as pathetic. In every book and movie, the character with no friends is typically portrayed as weak and in need of salvation. No one wants to be seen as a "weirdo", hence our dread of being alone. We do not want people to think of us as unwanted or not fitting in with the popular crowd. We do not want people to think that no one chose us. So, what do we do? We start becoming an ideal version of someone whom everyone loves. In the process of seeking people''s acceptance and love, however, you lose yourself. But enough is enough. The book is divided into two sections. The first section focuses on transforming loneliness into solitude. The second section explores using your solitude as a catalyst for growth. If you are ready to transform your perception of loneliness and achieve your goals using your alone time, then welcome to The Art of Being Alone. -

This edition is not just a translation-it is a guide through the vast terrain of rabbinic thought. At its core are the Mishnah and the Gemara: the Mishnah, compiled by Rabbi Judah the Holy around 200 CE, is the foundational text of Jewish oral law, and the Gemara is a centuries-long commentary exploring every line, idea, and implication.
