Little Complicated
I grew up with the Buchanan twins.
Wreaking havoc. Playing hockey. Causing chaos.
Almost all of my memories involve Archer and Maverick.
Then I started dating one of them.
Archer Buchanan is perfect.
He's sweet. Attentive. Passionate.
He's everything a girl could ask for in a boyfriend.
And I love him so much.
The problem is...I love his twin brother even more.

Perfect Circle
Two women far apart in time, a mysterious unsellable mansion in Milan that connects them: two lives that start to overlap as impossible parallels are revealed in this story of passion, betrayal, and selfish desire."A thrilling study of time that playfully intertwines birth and death, motherhood and human extinction." --Kirkus Review
In the round house on Via Saterna, its Palladian square exterior nothing but a trompe-l'oeil, the sun pierces through the central skylight. Its rays pass three floors unobstructed, before reaching the circle below at the heart of the house: four fingers of water filling a little silver basin. It is here that young Lidia dies, setting an end to her clandestine love affair with the ambitious architect. It is this house that real-estate agent Irene is asked to sell, decades later, as the climate catastrophe escalates, cloaking the divided city in a permanent orange haze. Returning to her native Milan for the sale, Irene feels the brunt of her father's judgement. He is a proud Italian and prouder architect--how could his own daughter make a living selling cultural patrimony to the highest foreign bidder? As she faces this new Milan and the old family tensions she had avoided while living in Rome, Irene throws herself into the impossible sale, getting to know Via Saterna intimately--this space that is as unsettling as it is hostile, with the slowly emerging traces of Lidia's interrupted life. In every room of the house, the burden of a mysterious, unresolved past can be felt, remnants of a selfish and manipulative love.
The Perfect Circle tackles themes like time, death, and repetition with depth and originality, while carrying its philosophy lightly. Through it all, the novel is a subtly disturbing page-turner, every new page adding a new layer and twist.

Walden - On Walden Pond - Life in the Woods - The Transcendentalist Masterpiece
Arguably America's most famous nonconformist, Henry David Thoreau lived at Walden Pond from July 1845 to September 1847, chronicling his experiences there. It was an experiment in living a life unhindered by social trappings and tradition. His work was not widely renowned for years after his death, but it later became a staple in modern culture, defining not only what it means to be an American, but what it means to be human. Come see where the idea of marching to the beat of a different drummer originated. Walden is a classic and essential reading.

Physical Education
A portrait of creative stagnation, digital saturation, and the strange, sideways momentum of post-modern life. Laura has just received a prestigious grant to write her debut novel, and everyone around her agrees that things seem to finally be falling into place for her. Instead, she finds herself increasingly numb and detached from reality--half-heartedly meeting up with friends at the gym, struggling to fulfil her role as a daughter, and managing an abstract relationship with a married man. Haunted by lingering memories of a toxic youth she can't escape, Laura is stuck in a strange limbo, unable to draw a cohesive plot for her life, her hopes, or her future. Wry, elliptical, and intimate, Physical Education perfectly captures the quiet absurdities of the algorithmic age and the familiar ways in which we scroll, strive, sweat, and stall our way through the world. A smart, emotionally resonant work for readers of Jillian Tamaki's Boundless and The Hard Tomorrow by Eleanor Davis. The first-ever graphic novel to be a National Illustration Award of Portugal Highlight Book! -
On the Side of Ice: Policing Immigrants in a Sanctuary State
Shows how police serve to assist ICE despite sanctuary laws insisting otherwise
In the United States, local law enforcement agencies are legally and organizationally independent entities from federal law enforcement agencies like the FBI and ICE. While local police enforce local, state and federal laws, they are not required to enforce civil immigration laws. This book examines the role of local police as voluntary, auxiliary reinforcements for ICE, focusing on the police force in New Jersey. It argues that even police in sanctuary jurisdictions, which explicitly label themselves as immigrant-friendly, are nonetheless still informally multiplying ICE's forces through voluntary cooperation. While to date, the ethnography of policing has been produced from participant observation with the police in "ride-alongs" during patrol work and in jails and the examination of official documents like police reports, this book employs a novel method of transcribing police body worn camera (BWC) video footage to provide immersive, ethnographic thick description narratives of instances of local police officers assisting ICE. It makes the case that BWC ethnographic methods are better able to capture realistic interactions between the police and those they stop than when participant observers are on the scene. The volume thus not only reveals the ways in which local police function to assist ICE in enforcing federal civil immigration law, but also demonstrates the significance of using BWC-based ethnographies to examine how police exercise power. From police footage, internal records, and other materials, On the Side of ICE renders intimate, on-the-ground ethnographic narratives that illuminate what policing immigration looks like in contemporary America. -
