Future of Accounting
The Future of Accounting by Dave McComb and Cheryl Dunn, PhD challenges the assumptions that have shaped accounting for decades. Rather than making incremental improvements to outdated systems, this book rethinks accounting from first principles-asking what it should look like if it were designed today, informed by over 50 years of advances in information systems.
Traditional accounting systems are built to report history long after events occur, delivering incomplete and delayed information that limits effective decision-making. In contrast, this book introduces a data-centric approach to accounting-one that captures all relevant organizational data in real time, without manual intervention or after-the-fact adjustments.
By grounding accounting systems in a single, simple, and extensible data model, organizations can gain faster access to more complete, traceable, and verifiable financial information. The result is better decisions, improved budget performance, and a clearer view of how the business truly operates.
Drawing on real-world experience with organizations transitioning toward data-centric enterprises, McComb and Dunn explain why accounting has been a major barrier to progress-and how it can become a powerful enabler instead.
Written for business leaders, technologists, and forward-thinking accountants, The Future of Accounting offers a bold vision for transforming accounting into a modern, data-driven discipline.

Undaunted Trailblazers II: Contemporary Men of Color Shaping Oral Health
One of the unfortunate truths in life is that the history of people of color contains gaps due to the lack of recognition of our contributions to society or to an intentional sanitizing of those accomplishments. On November 23, 2022, the movie Devotion was released. It is the remarkable story of Jesse Brown, the first African American aviator in US Navy history, who served in the 1950s. When I think about all the stories of extraordinary individuals in history that were a part of my formal education, there are so many, like Jesse Brown's, that remain stricken from the record. It matters that our stories are shared with others, as each of the unique aspects of our lives can be a blessing to someone and provide them with the steps necessary to help them reach their goals. Our stories provide much-needed context, whether they are mundane or extraordinary. They allow the world to know that we were here and the impact our lives made on the world, or concomitantly, how the world has influenced and shaped our lives. The stories profiled in this book focus on men of color in oral health who have blazed trails for themselves and others during the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries. Throughout the book, you will read about candor and inspiration. We are thankful for our writers having shared so much of their journeys and their lives.

Broken Plea: The Explosive Search for Truth Behind the Idaho Murders
Was there more than one killer? Had the crime scene been cleaned and sanitized before the police arrived? Was furniture staged to throw off detectives? In one of the most extraordinary true crime stories ever published, Broken Plea questions what really happened in the house on King Road--and the results of that investigation will astound you.
In the early morning hours of November 13, 2022, four lives were lost in a brutal crime in Moscow, Idaho--and a nation demanded answers. When a suspect accepted a plea bargain, the story seemed settled. Justice, many believed, had been served.
Broken Plea challenges that assumption.
Drawing on court records, investigative timelines, witness statements, and apparently overlooked inconsistencies, this meticulously researched exposé examines how a rush to judgment may have shaped one of the most closely watched murder cases in recent memory. As the official narrative hardened, critical leads went unexplored, contradictory evidence was minimized, and alternative explanations faded from view.
This book does not claim certainty where none exists. Instead, it asks the questions that were never fully pursued: What happens when pressure to close a case outweighs the search for truth? What evidence may have been sidelined, and why? And what are the consequences when a plea doesn't end scrutiny but invites it?
Clear-eyed, unsparing, and deeply unsettling, Broken Plea reopens the case--and invites readers to look again at what justice demands when the truth remains unresolved.

As You Wake, Break the Shell
Explore a universe of stubborn survival and found family, of persistent danger and quiet wonder in the first installment of a heartfelt new duology from Hugo Award-winning author Becky Chambers.
Life on the resource-poor planet of Fortune is challenging, but for its inhabitants, it's home. For two of them, Signy and Cora, this home might no longer be enough.
Signy is a brilliant but reclusive botanist who bio-prints medicine from her small plant shop, often bending the rules to help those the system leaves behind. Her life is filled with the green of her store, the warmth of her one elderly friend, and the quiet determination to help others without putting herself in danger.
Cora is a rorqual pilot, one of the few with the unique ability to navigate the massive, living ships that connect the scattered settlements of their solar system. Her bond with her rorqual, Colibri, is profound--a connection that is both her greatest gift and a threat to her career.
It is that threat--the "mindbleed," a dangerous side effect of her piloting--that brings her to Signy's shop, and her appearance puts Signy in the danger she so fears. But it's soon apparent it's not just about losing her license--this delicate balance between risk and trust has the potential to change everything for them.
Told in an alternating timeline of their initial coming together and a not-so-distant future where they have found domestic bliss, this is a story harrowing and haunting, heartfelt and hopeful. Through a love story centered around survival, we are given a glimpse into the very best of what Becky Chambers does in her writing: explore what it means to be human, and what it means to come together.

Newbery Honor-winning author Gail Carson Levine shares a story of family, prejudice, faith, and unlikely friendship in medieval England, for every child who is more perceptive than they seem, and braver than they know.
Chera, Lummie, and Joan are unusual in medieval Winchester, England. Two girls and a boy, and two Jews and a Christian are not supposed to be friends. Most days, after their studies with Rabbi Baruch, they enjoy scaring themselves in the greatly feared nearby forest, home to ne'er-do-wells and sprites, where they make another unusual friend, a starving outlaw.
But the trio's fun is shattered when Chera's grandmother, a wealthy widow, and Joan's mother, her maid, are murdered. Jurors name a suspect, who flees the city, and he may not have killed them anyway. Almost anyone could have, so just investigating isn't enough. What's more, the Unusuals are sure Lummie's grandmother will be the next to die.
They concoct a perilous plan, which needs allies to succeed, but everyone else thinks their idea is dizzy--crazy. With lives in the balance, this trio of friends must band together against the odds and call on their unusual bonds to help seek justice.

This Cursed Beautiful Land: A Russian-American Story
The revelatory, much-anticipated memoir from the Wall Street Journal reporter who was wrongly imprisoned in Putin's Russia for more than a year--a glimpse inside the perils and contradictions of a country in the midst of autocracy "[Gershkovich's] memoir is proof that even during that harrowing time, his reporter's eye remained as sharp as ever."--The New York Times, "The Nonfiction Everyone Will Be Talking About in 2026" In March 2023, a year after Russia invaded Ukraine, Evan Gershkovich met with a union boss connected with a Russian tank factory. As the journalist sat with his source in an empty restaurant in an industrial city 900 miles east of Moscow, a squad of masked agents charged in, blindfolded Evan, and dragged him into an unmarked van. The agents were from the FSB, Putin's powerful security service, and the successor to the Soviet-era KGB. Five years earlier, Evan had arrived in Moscow to jumpstart his journalism career. His parents had left the Soviet Union in the 1970s, forging a middle-class life in New Jersey, where Evan grew up on Soviet-era cartoons and weekend trips to Brighton Beach. In Moscow, Evan dove into life--unpacking politics for readers of The Moscow Times and developing a circle of deep friendships with Russian peers, all striving to make their way in perilous times. Western journalists had long felt insulated from the dangers their Russian counterparts experienced. But war, it seemed, had changed the rules. Interrogated for hours after his arrest, Evan was told he was being charged with spying and thrown in Moscow's notorious Lefortovo prison--a pawn in a geopolitical chess match. After his world suddenly shrunk to a tiny, cement-walled cell, Evan did something remarkable: he continued reporting. For the next sixteen months, he documented a life in Russia that few Westerners will ever experience: its sprawling prison system, with its own vocabulary and customs--and surprising pockets of humanity. In writing by turns riveting and humorous, Evan brings readers inside the events leading to his arrest, his nearly 500 days in Russian prisons, and the blockbuster, multi-country prisoner swap that freed him. More than a prison memoir, This Cursed Beautiful Land is an extraordinary, deeply reported chronicle of a misunderstood people and their land--marked at once by stunning beauty and a haunting history. -

As he battles distrust and isolation, Aeden uncovers darker secrets hidden within Aviara's hallowed halls, whispers of his parents' deaths and the cover-up that followed. John Wick meets Blade Runner in this fast-paced cyberpunk thriller by the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Will of the Many and The Strength of the Few. My job, when you think about it, isn't so different from a lot of people's. The more old-fashioned crowd do still get hung up on the "killing people" part of it, I guess, but that's a them problem: it's been perfectly legal to take out lifers for ages. Besides, once ultrawealthy morons realised they had a way to live forever--limited resources be damned--there was only ever going to be one genuinely practical deterrent. So, sure, I have to deal with a ton of boring planning. Inconvenient hours. Some pretty awkward face-to-face interactions. And like most of us, I'm really only clocking in to try to crawl out from beneath my debts. But someone's got to do it. Luckily, my genetic compatibilities make me really, really good at doing it. Still. This next job...I don't know. It's something I haven't had to deal with in years. Kind of the opposite of my regular duties. Strange, that it got thrown my way. I'm sure it'll all go totally fine though. -
